I am a PhD candidate in Human Centered Design and Engineering (HCDE) at the University of Washington, working under the guidance of Professors Beth Kolko and Sean Munson. I am currently part of the Intentional Traces Collective (ITC) and the Tactile and Tactical Design Lab (TAT Lab).
My research sits at the intersection of human-computer interaction (HCI) and aging, focusing on how communication technologies and Internet of Things (IoT) smart home devices mediate reciprocal social support and care relationships among older adults and their networks. I employ qualitative and design-based methods to understand and design for more supportive, equitable communities. A key interest of mine is examining how these technologies both shape and are shaped by social and familial contexts, particularly regarding power dynamics within these relationships.
I hold an M.S. in Human Centered Design and Engineering from the University of Washington and a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of California San Diego. During my time at UCSD, I was part of ReCODE Health and the UCSD Design Lab at UC San Diego, where I developed digital tools to promote ethical research practices in digital health and explored effective strategies for returning research information to older adult participants.
I like starting new hobbies like in my spare time. Let me know if you have any suggestions for things I should try!
